SpiceJet to launch flights to Malaysia
SpiceJet will launch flights from the national capital to the Malaysian capital on Monday, which could become the first flight from India to Malaysia.
The airline has announced on its website that it will launch its inaugural flight from New Delhi to Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
"Flight operation between New Delhi and Kuala Lumpur will be made in accordance with the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) norms. The flight will be operated with one class-seat configuration," SpiceJet said.
SpiceJet will operate its first international flight at 8.45 am from Delhi to Kuala Lumpur and the return flight will depart at 12.15 pm.
The Mumbai-based carrier currently operates a service to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates and Kolkata, India.
The government had given its approval to the airline's plans to fly to Malaysia and Malaysia's tourism department said that it welcomes the move.
"We are glad that SpiceJet is going to fly to Kuala Lumpur. We have discussed the issue with the Malaysian government to promote trade and tourism. We welcome the move," Tourism Malaysia's senior vice president of corporate relations S. Subramaniam said.
This will be the third airline that would operate from New Delhi to Kuala Lumpur.
Jet Airways launched a service to Kuala Lumpur via Delhi in August 2010, which was later discontinued a couple of months later.
In October 2009, Air India launched flights to Kuala Lumpur but it had to terminate them within six months.
SpiceJet currently operates a weekly service between Delhi and Dubai, which would cost around Rs 1 lakh per person, making it the cheapest non-stop flight from Delhi to the Gulf nation.Q:
